The Quality Of Your Air Has Lifelong Implications

Most people are aware that there are health concerns with breathing in polluted air.

But you may be surprised to learn that the air your mother was breathing before you were born has likely had health implications on your entire life.

Studies are coming out that show a correlation between exposure to air borne ultrafine particulate matter (PM) during pregnancy, and some significant long term health issues for the baby.

The studies reported that PM exposure during pregnancy led to complications including low birth weight, cognitive issues, behavioral issues, obesity, diabetes, asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions.

Ultrafine particles are smaller than 1 micron and are small enough to cross into the blood stream. These tiny particles can even cross the placental barrier, and reach the developing fetus.

The results of these studies are a good reminder to be aware of how our environment can impact our health.

We should all be serious about taking reasonable steps to improving the environment as a whole.

When it comes to our “personal environments" – our homes, offices, or anywhere we spend a majority of our time, it is especially important that the air we breathe is high quality air.

This rings especially true for expectant mothers or those who are planning to start a family in the future.
